sadly this dynamic isn't exclusive to argentina, this denial of an african presence appears in many manifestations throughout latin america. furthermore, "blanqueamiento" is so internalized that many folks in latin america will deny an african presence in north america (i.e. if your north american and brown you might hear something like this: "you don't look like any of the hollywood stars we base our perception of the u.s. on"). european/catholic colonization severely warped the minds of the masses, who must be ignorant to the fact that the slave trade forcibly relocated far more enslaved africans to latin america than north america and somehow believe that the abolition of slavery did away with an african presence immediately/completely. no doubt hypo-descent ("the 1 drop rule" in the u.s.) working in reverse in latin america made the genetic invasion/colonization of the people a success, as any spanish blood is believed to somehow terminate an african and/or indigenous bloodline. more on the subject here: http://upsettingthesetupsince1977.blogspot.com/2011/04/region-in-denial-racial-discrimination.html
